Hello!
Now that you've recovered from the World Cup*, it's time to get back to
writing code. And with that, we present Processing 1.2!
Download it here: http://processing.org/download
[ what's in there? ]
The new release includes many improvements, among them:
+ We're now supporting Java 5 syntax. Welcome to 2004!
+ Lots of SVG and PDF fixes and additions.
+ A fix for Apple's recent Java update on Mac OS X.
+ Also for OS X, you no longer have to keep a sketch window open at all times.
+ About 11,873** bug fixes. Oh yeah!
For the detail-oriented, you can find the changes here: http://j.mp/9Xeg5m
[ at heart, we're just IT guys ]
We've also moved processing.org to a newer, faster server. Many thanks
to MediaTemple for the new setup. With the move, we've also added:
+ A new wiki! http://wiki.processing.org now hosts lots of useful info.
+ The 'discourse', under siege from spammers overseas, has been moved
to a new discussion group hosted at http://forum.processing.org
[ a new book! ]
We're also really excited to announce the latest book in our stable,
"Getting Started with Processing". It's an inexpensive and compact guide
to getting up & running quickly. It's a gateway drug to art & computation
that will have your family and friends staying indoors all summer!

Since we last wrote to this list in 2008***, a number of other books
have also appeared, which we'll cover in a future mailing. It's just
that this one is already getting long.
[ developers, developers, developers ]
As part of our server move, development has moved to Google code:
http://code.google.com/p/processing/
Go there to get the source code and help us improve the software.

[ that's all for now ]
We have lots more coming soon, including Processing for Android (now
in pre-release at http://android.processing.org) and improvements to
library handling, video, and OpenGL. More to come.
Go forth and create!
